Kai's 1st Birthday Party!

We were suppose to have a big birthday party for Kai this past weekend, but since he was sick we had to cancel. I didn't really want to try to reschedule the party, so we just had a little one for him tonight. Gavin picked out the little personal cake and the rest of us had an Elmo cake. And yes, Kai's party hat is on backwards (daddy didn't think it matter ;))

So Big now!~

Yum!

Enough of cake!

Update on the Selly Family

It's been awhile since I have done a family update. It's been a crazy busy month at the Selly house. I posted an update about Kai in the previous post. Gavin and Jace are doing good. They got sick a few weeks ago, but are much better now. They are both really enjoying preschool. They are also enjoying Sunday school. Last Sunday, they had their first Sunday school singing for our church service. They are getting practice in before the Christmas program. Jace has had improvement on speech and eating. We are proud of his progress. We have cut Jace's therapy down to once a week, instead of twice. It was getting to be a lot. Gavin....I just can't believe some of those things he says. He sometimes talks like he is an adult. He is such a sponge and absorb so much information. And boy does he have a memory. My boys crack me up sometimes. They are both excited for more snow. The little tease of snow is unfair to the little ones! ;)

Me and Levi are keeping busy as usual. Ready for a break from all of Kai's appointments and running around. Our house is still for sale. We wish someone would just come along and buy it. We had 3 showings in the past week or so, but no offers :( Have a feeling that we are going to be stuck he through winter.

Until next time....hopefully it won't be so long until the next time.

Update on Kai

It's been a really busy month for Kai. He has had several appointments and a handful more yet before the month is done. Also in this busy month, Kai had a birthday. He is one now. So what is Kai doing. Kai babbles a lot now. I just love listening to him. We are slowing work on some signing with him. He knows his name, but also likes to play the ignoring game. He knows what the words "no-no" mean and doesn't like it. He sometimes gets very upset. He waves bye, gives fives and does "so big". In the last few days he also likes to head butt people or the floor. Not sure why he does that. He sits up on his own, but does fall over sometimes. He gets up on all fours and rocks. He can go from crawling position to sitting and vice versa. He is tummy crawling now. He likes to get into things, especially things he is not suppose to. Cognitively he seems very close to be on tract. We are working on standing with his AFO's. He can't stand well at all without those braces. I can't remember what I last posted about his feedings, so if I repeat, please excuse me. He does 4 bolus feeds on the G-tube during the day and a continuous over 8 hrs on J-tube overnight. He still eats 2-4 ounces of baby food about 3 times a day (we also add the neocate nutra medical food to his baby food). He likes club crackers, ritz crackers and wagon wheels. We just recently started blending up table food for him. He seems to do ok with it, but doesn't take a huge amount, usually about an ounce or so. So trying to get him to drink out of a cup. Getting him to take liquids is very challenging. He doesn't have any teeth yet. Someone told me that the later they come in, the stronger. Don't know if that is really true or not. He has been keeping busy with appointments (he's had 12 doctor visits so far this month and 3 more to go for the month). He will having another surgery coming up, not sure on the date yet. He cannot keep the G-J tube in as it can damage his tissues inside. He will be getting a second hole (a J tube button). So he will have to buttons on his belly. Kai has been battling a cold and upper respiratory gunk for the past few weeks. When I brought him into Mankato Hospital, they said he had pneumonia. We got a little worried and talked to his genetics and we were advised to bring him up to Children's Hospital. Turns out that he didn't really have pneumonia, but there is a spot on his lung. They weren't exactly sure what that spot is, but didn't seem hugely concerned about it. So basically he has a virus and the upper respiratory stuff. Other then him not feeling the greatest lately, Kai is doing pretty good. I think better than a lot people thought he was going to be doing at age 1! Which of course brings tears to my eyes! He is one strong, very determined and self motivated little boy!

So Big!

Kai and his stander

Kai in his stander. He really enjoys being upright. He gets to see the world from another view! He wears his AFO's whenever he is working on standing.

Kai's 2nd Haircut

Before...look at all that hair!
After--not too bad considering mommy did it!

Kai had his 2nd hair cut towards the beginning of October. He has such wild hair ;)

Kai is 1 years old!!!!

On October 14th, Kai turned ONE!!!! I can't believe our little baby is ONE! This past year has gone by so fast. Kai has accomplished many things and is doing pretty good considering everything he has got going on. Kai weighs 15lbs and 7 ozs and is 28 inches long. So he is pretty small for his age. I will write an update on Kai in my next post.

First snow of the year

Gavin and Jace were so excited about the first snow fall. Even though there wasn't much, they had so much fun playing and eating the snow. Snow is Gavin's "favorite food" as he says. They were both trying to make snow angels. They are going to have so much fun when we get a lot of snow...hopefully it will be awhile from now.

G-J Tube

Kai's new button (almost twice as big as his other one)

Towards the end of September, it was decided to have Kai switch from a G-tube to a G-J Tube. We took him up to Children's to have this procedure done at radiology. Unfortunately, after 3 tries the procedure was unsuccessful. The tube kept backing up into his stomach. So on October 1st, Kai had an endoscopy done to place this G-J Tube. They had a little trouble with it, but they ended up being successful. So now Kai has bolus feeds in the G tube (tube that goes right into his stomach) during the day and then an 8 hour drip feed in the J tube (tube that goes right into his small intestine) on the overnight. He is tolerating these feeds and has gain a little weight so far.

It's been awhile

It's been awhile since I have posted. I should play catch up now. The last weekend in September we celebrated Levi's 30th birthday. Levi and some friends went 4 wheelin during the day and then in the evening we had friends and family over for a BBQ and bonfire. It was a great time! Hopefully Levi enjoyed his birthday. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures! Can you believe it? I'm still having a hard time believe that I didn't get any pictures!
