Jace's Evaluation

We met with the teacher that did Jace's assessment this morning. Based on the assessment, Jace qualifies for ECSE (Early Childhood Special Education). He will start this in the fall at South Elementary and will go in the mornings M-R. He will also work with a speech therapist. Besides his speech, he showed some low scores in social skills and showed some developmental delay. We are very happy that he qualifies because we know that he is going to really benefit from this. He has made so much progress working with his teacher, Becky (thanks, Becky!). He will continue services with Becky throughout the summer.

House for Sale

Well we have decided to put our house on the market. We meet with the realtor in a week and hopefully that goes well. It was a tough decision to make. As much as we love our house and where we live, it's just not working to continue to live here. Since Kai has been born, daycare has basically gone downhill. I'm going to be down to 2 part timers after next week (which isn't a whole lot of income). It is really hard to run a daycare with all of Kai's appointments and needs. I have become an unreliable daycare. I'm not able to meet all of Kai's daily needs as well and as a mom, I feel terrible about that. My boys need more of me. Levi's work has slowed down as well. It is nice to have him home more, but it's also an income cut as well. Our family is the most important thing to me and Levi. We like and want more family time together. We don't need this big house on the lake. We are looking to move into town (St. Peter). We hope that once our house goes on the market, that it will sell quickly (cross our fingers).

So we are downsizing in some household items and getting rid of a lot of daycare items. We plan to have a garage sale June 13th.

Jace is doing a 3 day preschool assessment this week at ECSE. He rides the bus to and from school. He was scared at first, but seems to be okay with it now. I wasn't here for when he got picked up (which was probably a good thing). Now he seems to be excited about going on the bus and going to school. We meet with the teacher on Friday to go over his evaluation.

No more bottle!

Yesterday Kai had a feeding clinic appointment at Children's in Minneapolis. He has lost about 3 ozs since last week. He weighed 14 lbs 6.5 ozs. We are going to continue to work on upping his quantity of formula and watch his weight. The goal is to get to 120 mls per feeding and he is currently at 110 mls per feeding. We are still working on baby food with him. Learn some new techniques to help with Kai's feedings and will continue with some oral stimulation. No more bottle! We are now going to concentrate on the sippy cup. He is very interested in the cup. They also recommended that he wears his thumb splints regularly again.

Kai's sickness

Kai is getting better. He still has a cough and little congestion. Last week he was put on some oral antibiotics which he did not tolerate. He ended up getting the 3 day rocephin (sp?) shot. He is doing much better, but not 100%. He has a follow up appointment tomorrow.

Kai got a new toy; a super seat! It's kind of a cross between a bumbo and an exersaucer. It works great for him and he has toys that are sitting right in his reach.

Kai's surgery didn't happen

Kai did not have surgery on Wednesday. His cough got worse Tuesday into Wednesday. Just when we thought he was getting better. We mentioned it to the anesthetist and he said he wouldn't put him under. His ENT doctor was not happy about this and made it out like it was all our fault that Kai wasn't having surgery. She was not very professional about it. We wanted to make sure it was going to be safe for him. His health and safety is our number one concern, obviously not the ENT doctor's. I am glad that he did not go through with surgery that day. It turns out that Kai has more than just a cough. He is sick; pink eye, ear infection, horrible cough and a viral infection. After that morning we have decided to switch Kai to a different ENT doctor (to the same one that Gavin and Jace see). So after Kai had a doctor's visit he was put on antibiotics. Yesterday we discovered that he wasn't tolerating that antibiotic. So now he is getting a 3 day antibiotic shot. Today will be day 2 of the shot. I really hope that he starts feeling better. His cough has gotten better, but it's still a horrible cough. He is going for a recheck on Thursday and then we will talk about rescheduling his surgery. It's so frustrating that he is sick all the time. He will get better and then be sick free for about a week and then turn around and catch something again. These little sicknesses are so much on him and takes a lot out of him (and me!). Some days are tough dealing with all of this, but his smile keeps me going!

Sheldon arrives later tonight. He is visiting us from Missouri. It will be nice to see him, as we haven't seen him in almost a year.

Update on the Selly Family

Well, I thought I would do an update on our whole family. Not too much new on Kai. He's almost done with the cold that he has had. He giggles a lot and loves to really look around. He is becoming a very active little boy. He had his cranio cap adjusted today. Wednesday he gets ear tubes put in and frenulum cut. They will be running another ABR at that time. Hopefully we will talk about hearing aides at the same time. Next week we have a feeding clinic appointment. The following week he has an appointment with the eye doctor and GI doctor (oh and a cranio cap adjustment). Otherwise Kai is doing pretty good!

Jace just recently got another ear infection. This is the 2nd one in the last 5 weeks! Next week Jace has a preschool assessment done. He will go to preschool 3 days that week. He even gets to ride the school bus. I wonder how he is going to do with that. Jace is starting to use more words, even 2-3 words at a time.

Gavin is doing good. He just recently moved his bedroom downstairs. He was very excited about, but is scared to sleep done there by himself. It will take some time for him to get used to it. Gavin is now done with Sunday school until the fall. I think he will miss going to school. Both of the boys have been really enjoying the outdoor time. It is sometimes hard to get them inside.

Levi is still working 10 hour days. It is supposed to be 4 days a week, but you never now with good old Unimin. He has been working the last couple Fridays as well. It has been nice to have him home on the weekends and not always working.

Me...busy, busy, busy! I have so much to do, I just get so overwhelmed and don't know where to start. I'm still doing daycare, but not like I used to. In a few weeks, I will be loosing one of my families that I have had since I started doing daycare. :( We will miss them, but I understand that they need to move on and kids are getting older. So I am hoping to get a few more part timers in as I'm not as reliable as I use to be. We have so many summer projects that we would like to accomplish, I'm sure we won't complete them all.

At the end of this week, we will be getting a visitor! Sheldon is coming to visit! For those who don't know about Sheldon, he is Levi's 16 year old cousin. Sheldon is from Missouri and lived with us from summer '07 until summer '08. We are very excited to have him visit. Gavin really misses him as he thought of Sheldon as an older brother.

Kai will be 7 months tomorrow. I can't believe it! He weighs 14 lbs 5 ozs and is 26 inches long. I'm so happy to see weight gain. I was a little worried for awhile. He is doing good, with the exception of a cold that he has now. He is a very happy little guy, but don't be fooled. He does have some really crabby moments, but who doesn't? He has been doing a lot of laughing. He almost has me in tears sometimes. I just love his laugh! We are still working on sitting and rolling. He is starting to do some rolling by himself, but gets frustrated. On Wednesday, May 20th, Kai will have ear tubes put in and have his frenulum cut. We pray that everything goes good. At the same time they will be running another ABR test. That is all for now! I will write again soon and give an update on the rest of the Selly family.

I'm trying to play catch on here. Kai seems to be doing better, but he's still not 100%. Today I got relicensed for daycare. I'm glad that is all done now. It is some weight lifted off my shoulders.

Kai is 6 months

Can't believe that Kai is 6 months already! He had his 6 month appointment on April 17th. He weighed 13 lbs, 11 ozs and was 25 inches long. Very much on the small side. He also had an ENT appointment that day. He will be having ear tubes put in on May 20th. At that time they will cutting his frenulum and running another ABR test on him. It sounds like he will be getting hearing aides. She said she wants to wait to get all the fluid out of his ears and the ABR test.

Kai is still working on sitting up and rolling. He is started to grab at toys now as well. He loves to chew on his fingers also.

Kai and his sickness

As some of you may know that Kai was at Children's Hospital for a few days. He came home Tuesday and is doing much better. Kai started his sickness Easter morning and wasn't getting better. He had an upper respiratory infection and also ended up with an ear infection. He was put on antibiotics. He ended up with having excessive diarrhea. He was crying pretty much all day long for about a week straight and wasn't tolerating regular feedings. After being to the doctor 4 times in one week and talking to the clinic on the phone a couple times on top of that, we decided that we would just take up to Children's. We knew that something just wasn't right. Levi called the nurse line at Children's Sunday night and she said that he should probably be seen. So we headed up there that night. They ran a bunch of test and everything turned out fine. Basically they think he got a nasty stomach bug. They were explaining that sometimes with a stomach bug, that it can do things to the lining of the stomach I believe is what they said. And that in turn can make one lactose intolerant. Plus with him being on so much antibiotics in such a short period of time. So they have temporarily switched him to a special kind of formula, taken him off of antibiotics and he is on some probiotics. He seems to be doing better. We have to go for a follow up appt with the GI doctor up there in about 2 months. I'm glad that we decided to take him in. We just didn't seem like we were getting anywhere down here. I really believe that a mom has to follow her instincts ;) Kai is doing much better. He is full of his smiles today. So far today has not really had any diarrhea. He even went to Therapy this morning for about an hour! It is so great that he is feeling much better.

Easter 2009

We had a weekend of fun planned for Easter weekend. Good Friday we headed up to the Grand Hinckley Inn. Saturday we went to my sister, Melissa's. The boys played on the 4 wheelers. Gavin and Jace had a great time playing with their cousins. Then we went swimming at the hotel. They were having fun but seemed a little out of sorts. All three boys had developed an icky cough. That evening Gavin started running a fever with shakes. So I brought him into ER. Of course since we were way up in Hinckley, the closest ER was Mora. So after 3 hours of being there, we found out that Gavin had pneumonia. After getting back to the hotel and just trying to settle into bed, Jace woke up screaming. Our first thought was ear infection, gave him some Motrin and then he finally fell asleep. After that was Kai's cough attack. Needless to say...I did not get any sleep that night. Easter morning, Kai started vomiting at the hotel. So we decided to skip Easter at my sister Tina's and just head back home to take Jace and Kai into ER. On the way home, Jace's ear started to drain. He definitely had an ear infection. We got home early afternoon and headed to ER in Mankato. We confirmed Jace's ear infection and they found nothing wrong with Kai (upper respiratory infection basically). They did a chest x-ray and a RSV test on him and those came back fine. So that is how we spent our Easter.

Beginning of April

At the beginning of April, Kai ended up with pink eye. I was so hoping that he was going to get it, but he did. At least it's pretty easy to treat and goes away quickly.

We had Gavin's birthday party the day after the Owatonna water park fun. He was officially 4 now. He didn't want to be 4 on his actual birthday because there was no cake! Apparently you have to have cake in order to have a birthday. So once he had his cake and party he was fine with being 4 years old.

The last Friday in March we had gone to the indoor water park in Owatonna with our friends, Angie and Eric and their kids. It was a great time. The boys really enjoyed the water park. This was Kai's first time in a pool. He didn't seem to mind it at all. He got a little shaken up when he would get splashed by water.

Wow!

Wow! It's been awhile since I have posted on here. Now I need to play catch up. Well since the last post. Gavin did end up with pink eye. Jace's pink eye got worse and had spread down his face. He was then put on some antibiotics as well. On March 25th, Gavin turned 4! I can't believe he is 4 years old already!

Weekend of urgent care!

Well, it's been the weekend of urgent care. First we had Kai in Saturday for his sickness. Earlier today Levi cut his hand in 3 places from washing a vase and had to get 3 stitches for the one cut. This evening, Jace was in for pink eye. And he very much has pink eye in both eyes and it's bacterial. So he is on drops. Now Gavin's eyes are goopy and red. We just put in some drops from a previous time until we can get him into the doctor tomorrow. So it's been quite the weekend around here. I really hope that Kai doesn't get pink eye. Tomorrow is going to be a challenge to bring all 3 boys to the clinic by myself. I really hope that Gavin and Jace behave themselves. We have a really busy week this week and events planned for the weekend. Hopefully this sickness stuff will pass before then and won't interfere with our plans. Never dull around our place! I want a vacation!!
